{"id":393,"date":"2025-12-05T12:56:37","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T18:56:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.blog.quinta.tech\/?p=393"},"modified":"2025-12-05T13:24:01","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T19:24:01","slug":"por-que-el-rfid-no-es-el-futuro-de-la-gestion-de-llantas-y-que-si-lo-es","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blog.quinta.tech\/en\/2025\/12\/05\/por-que-el-rfid-no-es-el-futuro-de-la-gestion-de-llantas-y-que-si-lo-es\/","title":{"rendered":"Real-time tire telemetry (the true future)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The uncomfortable truth no one tells you.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For years, the transport industry has sought the best way to&nbsp;<strong>identify tires<\/strong>&nbsp;within fleets: tattoos, economic numbers, QR codes, stamps on the hubs, and more recently,&nbsp;<strong>tags RFID<\/strong>.<br>The promise sounds attractive: \u201cread the tire without contact, gain more control, and prevent theft.\u201d But the reality is very different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today I can tell you something with complete certainty:<br><strong>RFID is NOT the future of tires. And not only is it not the future\u2014it is a technology that, when applied to tires, simply does not work.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m not saying this out of competition or theory:<br>In&nbsp;<strong>At Quinta Tech, we invested time, money, and thousands of tests into RFID<\/strong>, and although we lost a lot, we gained something more valuable:&nbsp;<strong>the experience to avoid making the same mistake again<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why does RFID fail in tires?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>1.&nbsp;<strong>Because it is a weak passive technology by nature<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The RFID used in tires is the same type of tag that works for passing toll booths or entering a gated community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And even then\u2026 how many times have you had to back up because the barrier didn\u2019t detect you?<br>If that happens under ideal conditions,&nbsp;<em>imagine it inside a tire<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The windshield does not block the signal.<br>But a tire does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blog.quinta.tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-12-02-at-07.58.27-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-400\" style=\"width:348px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blog.quinta.tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-12-02-at-07.58.27-1.jpeg 1200w, https:\/\/www.blog.quinta.tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-12-02-at-07.58.27-1-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/www.blog.quinta.tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-12-02-at-07.58.27-1-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.blog.quinta.tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-12-02-at-07.58.27-1-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/www.blog.quinta.tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-12-02-at-07.58.27-1-9x12.jpeg 9w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.&nbsp;<strong>Metal is its worst enemy (and a tire is almost entirely metal)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What almost no one explains is that&nbsp;<strong>RFID does not work well with metal<\/strong>.<br>And a truck tire\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It has steel belts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>metal layers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Metal hoops<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internal structures that generate interference<br>The result:<br><strong>Inconsistent, weak, and frustrating readings.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Reading an RFID tag on a tire is harder than finding a number tattooed with permanent marker. RFID tags stuck to the sidewall of the tire: the biggest scam<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the worst of all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Quinta we bought thousands of these tags.<br>We glued them.<br>We tried them.<br>We installed them exactly as the supplier said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The result after weeks or months?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The tags fall off<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They break<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They bend<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are deactivated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They come loose with vibration and heat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the most insulting thing:<br><strong>The supplier will blame you.<\/strong><br>Whether the installation was faulty.<br>That \"the surface was not prepared properly\".<br>That it \"hit in the wrong place\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No.<br>The problem is not you.<br>El problema es que&nbsp;<strong>esta tecnolog\u00eda NO fue hecha para las llantas<\/strong>and selling it as such is deceiving the customer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our office we have more than&nbsp;<strong>3,000 new RFID tags that we stopped selling<\/strong>&nbsp;because it would be disrespectful to offer something we know doesn't work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>So\u2026 what does work?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><img decoding=\"async\" easy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It's cheap<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is consistent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is consistent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If your alternative is RFID, you're better off sticking with conventional marking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls entra al patio.<br>No cuando alguien las revisa manualmente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to know:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pressure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Temperature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leaks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Distance traveled<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Burden<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actual condition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tire changes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Critical events<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Immediate alerts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RFID doesn't provide that.<br>But smart telemetry does
